Stratified Non-LTE Model Atmospheres for hot White Dwarfs

Abstract. In this paper, we present our work towards stratified non-LTE model atmospheres. The chemical stratification is determined from the equilibrium between gravity and radiative levitation. The chemical composition is therefore no longer a free parameter but is determined from the fundamental atmospheric parameters, effective temperature and surface gravity, alone. Some applications to hot white dwarfs are presented.
