Abstract. We are performing a systematic investigation of sphericity effects in non-LTE model atmospheres for hot and evolved low-mass stars. Routine spectral analyses of central stars of planetary nebulae, sdO stars, and hot white dwarfs are performed with models having plane-parallel geometry, which are appropriate as long as the thickness of the atmosphere is "small" compared to the stellar radius. Of course, "small" depends on the demands on the precision of the analysis and on the quality of observational data. We generalized our ALI model atmosphere code (Werner & Dreizler 1999) to spherical geometry and demonstrate here the in ence of sphericity effects on H-Balmer and He II lines as well as sphericity effects combined with metal line blanketing.Key words: -
