Abstract. One of the most interesting spectral classes of immediate white-dwarf progenitors is that of the exotic He-rich PG 1159 stars. We present an analysis of the two brightest PG 1159 stars, the central star of the planetary nebula NGC 246 and of RX J2117.1+3412, and summarize our present picture of post-AGB evolution of He-rich stars.
